Clomid (Clomiphene citrate)is a fertility drug commonly prescribed to women that are trying-to-conceive to induce ovulation. Clomid is often prescribed to women with irregular cycles that either experience irregular ovulation or don’t ovulate at all. If you aren’t sure whether you are ovulating, you can determine this by tracking your menstrual cycles with ovulation predictor kits, fertility monitors, or even monitoring your body’s natural signs – the consistency of your cervical mucus and tracking your basal body temperature.

In order to understand how Clomid works, it is important to understand what is happening in your body as you approach ovulation. In the beginning of your cycle, estrogen levels are low which signal your body to produce FSH (follicle stimulating hormone). Estrogen levels begin to increase which triggers LH (Luteinizing Hormone). This surge is what releases the mature egg from the follicle. For ovulation to occur, enough LH and FSH must be produced to release the egg. Clomid is used to help your body produce enough LH and FSH. It tricks the body into thinking that there is not enough estrogen – which increases the production of LH and FSH, causing your body to ovulate. Generally, it is not recommend to take Clomid for more than six cycles, so if pregnancy is not achieved, a different treatment plan should be discussed.

While taking Clomid, it is common to experience a decrease in fertile-quality cervical mucus. It is extremely important to have a healthy environment to transport and protect the sperm when trying-to-conceive. Supplements, such as FertileCM can help increase the quantity and quality of fertile-quality cervical mucus and is safe to take along with Clomid.

Clomid belongs to a class of medications called Clomiphene citrate (Clomid). It helps to stimulate the LH and FSH production in your body. This increase in LH and FSH helps deliver the egg to your ovaries. Clomid is a prescription-only treatment for 10–20 women. If your body is experiencing ovulation often, it is important to do more monitoring than usual by taking fertility tracking ovulation predictor kits, also known as FollicleSt tracking, or using your basal body temperature or call your doctor.

It is unknown whether Clomid is ovulation inducing or if it is simply a hormone. The most common side effects of Clomid are folliculitis, abnormal ovarian hyperstimulation, and oligo-hatching. If you are experiencing any of these symptoms, you should talk to your doctor as soon as possible after your cycle begins to track.

Hi all, I have had my PCL with ovulation and have been hoping to conceive naturally for 3 months now. My PCL is 2x a year, but this has been increasing the time it takes to ovulate. I am hoping to get my 3 month cycle back to normal. Any advice on what I can do?

I have been TTC for 6 months now, so I am hoping that this will be the last year of my cycle. My periods will probably be a little shorter, but I have had good results, but I can't remember when it was before I ovulated. I am so tired I am almost dying. My doc suggested that I have ovulation in a lab for 5 days after ovulation, but I didn't see the need to, I am on clomid for 5 days and then I am just going through the cycle, the doc said it was normal and the chances are not that high so I would have to give it up. I am trying to get the clomid, but I am still hoping for ovulation, but the chances are that is not what I was hoping for. I am planning to get my cycle back on track but I am hoping to get it back on track before I get my period. Thanks

Dr.
